Article from the Mineral County Miner...

Last Friday, nine members of the Snow Country Explorers and Creede OHV Club joined forces to help the Rio Grande National Forest Service complete the assembly of 172 new picnic tables. These tables will be used to replace the old and weathered tables that presently are being used in the local campgrounds. Friday's volunteers finished the assembly of 26 wheelchair-accessible, 8-foot picnic tables. The target date for completion was May 24th, but with several volunteer groups from the Creede community in addition to Friday's crew, the USFS was able to accomplish the task ahead of schedule.

The group gathered at the USFS site off Deep Creek Road at 9 a.m. under sunny skies. Jody Fairchild and Bob Wunderlich, both with the USFS, taught the group how to assemble the tables. We broke into teams of three people each and went to work. The first table was the hardest, but after that, the rest went together fairly quickly. The group finished up table number 26 right about noon.

Both the Snow Country Explorers and the Creede OHV Club volunteer for various community projects in addition to having fun with their regular club activities. Anyone who would like more information about either of these two clubs should contact Leslie Dustin at 719-658-0184 (Snow Country Explorers) or Jerre Guthals at 719-658-0412 (Creede OHV Club).
